Gaudi inspired again

the second one not really, but still. Other Gaudi Inspired: 1, 2, 3

I should be doing Math right now...just cannot make myself do homework recently. I'm working on a pretty cool project though, I'll see how it goes. Other than that, not much happening here, this probably explains my silent blog. I've been receiving a lot of letters actually, which makes me really happy. The week passed so quickly and I do think I did nothing. Oh well. Christmas coming!

i managed to read a book

Yes, I did! I've finished reading B.Yoshimoto's "Asleep" today, an amazing book. Why so proud? It's impossible to find time for reading here. Yet I did and I'm really glad. I don't know what happened but since I started reading, I somehow started noticing things and my head was suddenly full of ideas - like if I awoke from a long sleep. Maybe that's the way books wake your brain up...well, if it is, I wish it lasts. And I also watched some movies, the most strinking one being "Clockwork orange". Left me with my mouth open, gotta watch it at least once more.

So as you see, I decided to make an update about my life...which hasn't been THAT exciting afterall, but there are things I can share.

Starting from my amazing birthday with lots of laughter and songs (the guys in the picture above wrote me a song using Lithuanian words for "Happy b-day", which is "Su gimimo diena" and in the end sounded like "So gimme more Ieva". Hilarious!) I've been pretty happy in general.

I met Irene In Trieste a few weeks ago, an Italian graphic designer who is extremely nice and even baked me cookies! Can't wait to meet again. Check her works out here.

Kept attending photography activity which is not that much of a joy for me yet, since I know already what we're learning. But nevertheless, I enjoyed going around with my first year Seva taking random pictures in an abandoned house.

And then the long weekend came which I spent pretty much alone in the room drawing (sketching in my little book, yay!) or with Seva and Jonathan. These two are just too cool for school.

Also finally managed to make some decorations for the philosophy class. Monsters, like always. So much fun to make though.

Last weekend was crazy with having SATs and also an event which I organised at school and which was called "the Art Marathon". I took me so much energy, even now I'm pretty exhausted and tired even if I sleep enough. It was worth it though. We're probably making a video about it, so I'll tell more when the video is out.

For now I'm starting to make plans for the winter break, creative plans I mean, also trying to make myself do something creative here as well. I know I can, it's just that school takes up most of the time and then what's left is usually spent with friends. Some exciting stuff - I might get my photos published in one Italian fashion magazine in Feb/March. Yay.

Totally stupid picture of me and my last year's model Allisha.

Japan: Kyoto and the New with the Old

Finally got my hands on the pictures from Japan again. After a wonderful experience in Nagoya, with the Hanabi festival and nice couchsurfers' host family I arrived to Kyoto, another city about which I was dreaming for a loooong time already. And those 3 days in Kyoto were definitely more than I expected.

I stayed again with a couchsurfing person, a university student Toshiaki, who was super nice to me and told about places that I liked and probably wouldn't have visited if not him. Also seeing a life of a university student was really interesting...he also took me to Kyoto university where I met other students - so much fun!

First day I walked around with Toshiaki a bit, then on my own and as I said, we met the uni students. The next day I rented a bike and this was one of the best advices that Toshiaki had given me. First of all, I went to all the places I planned to: both Golden and Silver Pavillions, even though they're far from each other, also many many temples and shrines. Second thing, you feel like a local. Third, the best thing, it's not that hot when you're riding a bike. Lovely day.

The Golden Pavillion

Only after I took this picture I realised where the shapes of the shrines come from. So cool.

In the evening of that day as I was a bit tired walking in the park, I saw this gate to a temple I didn't know existed there. So I went to see and there were a few people whose faces looked familiar. Vuolia, I met my two fellow students totally randomly in Kyoto! So after that I went around already with Amika and Reza and it was a great company.

Kyoto is an amazing city. It has some kind of a calm life, yet with all the modern buildings and stores. Amazing shrines are almost on every corner, people were very kind to me...the atmosphere was just what I needed. I especially enjoyed the afternoon we spent by the river watching kinds play in the water. Running around is not always the best way to get to know a foreign culture.

Another amazing place we went to is a bit away from Kyoto, it's called Fushimi Inari. Basically there are thousands of gates you find in front of each shrine...it's amazing. You probably have seen it in "Memoirs of a Geisha" and I can really tell you that in reality it's breathtaking...also very tiring if you want to walk around with a backpack on a very hot summer day.

After Kyoto I went to a little artsy island called Naoshima. Wait till the next post. And of course, places I already wrote about: Yokohama, Fujinomiya, Nagoya.

The prayers. I wrote mine in the orange temple above.
